Hey everyone, I am sorry I haven't been posting new things I have just been so busy dipping my toes into the world of nutrition. I can't even begin to describe all the amazing things that I have learned through one nutrition class. Most recently we have been studying the different types of fats and where they can be found. One that I found most interesting was coconut milk or coconut water. For those of you who are following that coconut crazy there might be a few things that you need to know.
First off, recent studies have shown that there are no benefits to drinking coconut water and it might be better for those who are diabetic to stick to water. Coconut milk for those who use it as a substatute for milk might be disappointed to learn that it contains more fat than 2% milk. Personally, I found this to slightly depressing for I have a small obsession with Silk's coconut water. Although, we must not forget that some fat is a good thing. Fat creates hormones that is necessary for our body to function normally. So for those individuals who are working out endlessly in order to have no body fat, you are just working towards becoming boring people. Overall, we need at least 1/3 of each type of fat within our diets (Saturated, unsaturated and tras fat). For those of you who don't know what trans fat is, its mostly found in processed foods. We also can create trans fat when we heat our oil too high and it starts spitting, this is an indicator that trans fat has been created.
Nutrition can be so mind boggoling and there are a million things that we should know and yet have barely scratched the surface of. However, as a nutrition major I have learned that the feild of nutrition is ever changing and you have to take each day at a time and just learn as you go.
On a little side note, for those of you gluten free individuals who are creaving some delicious food and flavor I recommend any Indian food. Most is gluten- free and never holds back on the spices!!! It has seriously become my new comfort food. :) Get out there and try something new for it could be one of the best things you have ever done.
